Prayer Resources – Miscellaneous

The prayer that the Lord taught His disciples began “Our Father…(Matthew 6:9)” This suggests that Jesus was encouraging Christians to pray for all Christians everywhere, and not only for small groups of Christians (for e.g. your local church), or for your Christian friends. All these types of prayers are encouraged in the Bible. The following prayer has been adapted from the book of Ephesians, with the whole body of Christ, or the Universal Church, in mind.

Ephesians 1

1 (I) thank you God for Your holy people all over the nations, for those who are faithful followers of Christ Jesus.

2 I pray that You will give us grace and peace.

3 All praise to You, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, for You have blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ.

6 I praise You Father for the glorious grace You have poured out on us who belong to Your dear Son.

16 I thank You for (the Church) for its strong faith in the Lord Jesus and its love for God’s people everywhere.

17 I ask You, the glorious Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, to give us spiritual wisdom and insight so that we might grow in our knowledge of You.

18 I pray that our hearts will be flooded with light so that we can understand the confident hope You have given to those You called—Your holy people who are Your rich and glorious inheritance.

19 I also pray that we will understand the incredible greatness of Your power for us who believe Jesus. I know this is the same mighty power 20 that raised Christ from the dead and seated him in the place of honour at Your right hand in the heavenly realms.

Ephesians 3

12 Because of Christ and our faith in him, we come boldly and confidently into Your presence.

14 When I think of all this, I fall to my knees and pray to You my Father,15 the Creator of everything in heaven and on earth.

16 I pray that from Your glorious, unlimited resources You will empower the Church with inner strength through Your Spirit.

17 Then Christ will make his home in our hearts as we trust in You. Our roots will grow down into Your love and keep us strong.

18 I pray that we may have the power to understand, as all Your people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep Your love is.

19 May the Church experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then we will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from You.

Ephesians 6

18 (Father God empower) the Church to pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. That we would stay alert and be persistent in our prayers for all believers everywhere.

19 I pray for (missionaries, preachers and teachers of Your Word), too. I ask You to give them the right words so that they can boldly explain Your mysterious plan that the Good News is for Jews and Gentiles alike. 20 I pray that they will keep on speaking boldly for You, as they should.

Ephesians 3

20 Now all glory to You our Father, who is able, through Your mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think.

21 Glory to You in the church and in Christ Jesus through all generations forever and ever! Amen.
